About Registered & Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionists

A Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RDN) is trained in the science of food and nutrition and its applications to health. At a minimum, all registered dietitians must complete a bachelor’s degree in nutrition science or related field, complete 900 hours of postgraduate training, pass a national registration examination, and meet ongoing continuing education requirements. More than half of all registered dietitians hold masters or doctoral degrees.
In the state of Florida, the registered dietitian/nutritionist (RDN) is licensed and regulated by the Board of Medicine. Florida Statute 468.509 ( provides for licensure requirements and regulates the practice of nutrition and dietetics.
Registered and licensed nutrition professionals are the leading source of nutritional advice and serve to help people make positive changes in diet and lifestyle.
